UK FCA Proposes 10% Crypto ETN Allocation for Investment Funds
The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has unveiled a proposal permitting UK-authorized investment funds to allocate up to 10% of their portfolios to crypto exchange-traded notes (ETNs). This strategic move aims to integrate digital assets into regulated fund structures while mitigating risk exposure.
Fund managers must demonstrate alignment between ETN holdings and their fund's stated objectives. The 10% cap serves as a safeguard against regulatory reclassification as restricted retail products. Eligible ETNs include those listed on UK-recognized exchanges and qualifying international markets.
The consultation period for this proposal closes on July 13, marking a potential inflection point for institutional crypto adoption in Britain. Market participants anticipate this could catalyze broader acceptance of crypto-linked financial products across traditional investment vehicles.
